Knowing the theory is important—but practicing how to support a birthing person can help you feel more confident and prepared when working with clients.

This four-hour, instructor-led session gives aspiring and practicing birth doulas an opportunity to develop essential hands-on labor-support skills in a supportive learning environment.

What You Will Practice

  • Comfort measures for different stages of labor
  • Labor and birth positions
  • Rebozo techniques
  • Counterpressure and hip squeezes
  • Massage and soothing touch
  • Breathing, relaxation and grounding techniques
  • Using birth balls, peanut balls and other support tools
  • Supporting movement and position changes
  • Partner involvement and guidance
  • Communicating confidently with clients and the birth team
  • Responding to common labor scenarios while remaining within the doula’s scope of practice

This session is ideal for:

  • Birth doula students completing an online or self-paced training
  • Newly trained doulas who want additional practice
  • Doulas preparing to support their first clients
  • Experienced doulas who would like to refresh their skills
  • Individuals who completed training through Newmom.me Academy or another organization
