Birth Interventions & Modes of Delivery
Birth rarely unfolds exactly as planned. As a doula, understanding the different modes of delivery and common birth interventions can help you remain calm, informed, and supportive when a client’s birth experience changes.
This 3 hours self-paced refresher course is designed for trained and practicing doulas who want to strengthen their understanding of vaginal birth, medicated and unmedicated labor, induction, assisted birth, cesarean birth, and VBAC.
Rather than focusing only on definitions, the course explores how these interventions may affect the birthing person’s experience and, most importantly, how a doula can continue to provide meaningful support while remaining within scope of practice.
In this course, you will review
- Birth settings and different modes of delivery
- Vaginal birth: medicated and unmedicated
- Common methods of labor induction
- Assisted vaginal birth, including vacuum and forceps
- Cesarean birth, including planned and unplanned C-sections
- TOLAC and VBAC
- How interventions may change the labor experience
- Emotional and physical support during changing birth circumstances
- Supporting informed decision-making without giving medical advice
- Communicating with clients and the healthcare team
- Maintaining doula scope, boundaries, and professionalism
You will get a certificate of completion after the course is complete.
